UPDATE for January 2020:
I created this guide in 2011, so you'll have to take it with a grain of salt since dA has updated a bazillion things since then LOL. It now looks like many codes don't work in Literature submissions anymore, (or disable the "Eclipse" version of the site and show the old site instead), so some of the demonstrations here only look like regular text. But they should display properly if you copy/paste them in the comments. I'm so glad to see how many of you wonderful people still utilize this resource, so I wish you the best and encourage you to go ahead and experiment to see what works and what do

Luxus and Luxrender Beginner's Guide - DAZ Studio
Reality 2 might be the king of LuxRender plugins for DAZ Studio, and with Reality 3 on the horizon, that is not likely to change, but for those of us looking for something a little more flexible in the way it interfaces with LuxRender, the recently released Luxus is very a very attractive option. A number of LuxRender's features are not supported by Reality, but Luxus opens the options all the way out, and even has fields for entering newly released code to incorporate the latest LuxRender features.
The problem here is that configuring LuxRender's render engine and materials are complex tasks, and can be daunting to DS users that are used to

COMICS The GRIM REALITY part 1
I have been wondering where to start with a series of pieces about the reality of working in comics. It's hard because I kept thinking of more warnings to offer than positive signs of encouragement. Many creators are at that stage when asked how best to enter the comics industry they simply reply "Don't!"
Yesterday a creator called Jerry Ordway wrote a journal spotlighting his plight. He'd been working in comics for 30 years when the work started drying up. He's an incredibly talented artist who is just over 50 years old yet the publishers he worked for now want something new. As Jerry had thought he'd carry right on working until he re
3D v. Poser/Vue etc.
There have been some scuffles between artists regarding the usage of the software tools called "Poser" or "DazStudio". Most of the complaints come from 3D Modelers who take exception to 3D Manipulators who admit to using Poser to the point where I've seen someone commend an artist and ask what software they used, only to then hiss and scream when the artist mentioned the use of Poser. It's holy water to vampires (or so the movies tell us). Here are some comments addressed from a bird's eye perspective.

Featured Artist: The abstract world of Jason-C
For the last year CGI has been my thing - my passion, and drug - so with that in mind I thought I'd go do a little digging to see what would turn up in the 3D galleries here at Aus-Art. Sadly I find the gallery pretty sparse, running to a mere 3 pages for the year with only a handful of regular contributors. But damn do these people produce quality work! The fantastic constructions !Jason-C (https://www.deviantart.com/jason-c) puts together in TopMod grabbed my attention, piqued my curiosity and had me digging deeper.
Over the years Jason has been posting here on dA he has developed a jealousy inducing mastery of a number of software packages and techniques. ...oh, and did
