Description

Ok, so I think this 'll be my last pure Dan render. It's been a fun learning exercise. What I really learned was that SSS is a right pain in the arse but is very important for getting a more realistic result. I recently read in a tutorial on the on the DAZ forum that SSS is an over stated part of the process, but after the many hours I've spent in subtle tweaks I'd have to resoundingly disagree. It gives life! A good specular response and lighting can cover lack of sss to an extent, but for my processor cycles I'll stick with it.

Basically every single surface has been tweaked to my personal tastes. Spec maps from Phillip for M5, SSS strength maps from Dimension Theory's Interjection. I also created my own mask for the facial hair (from the diffuse texture) in an attempt to give a more realistic specular and SSS response in and around the beard. The difference is subtle - better in some ways and perhaps worse in others.

The morph and all the other textures are FW's Dan. I'd like to thank Fred for sending me Dan to play with.
